Hand Stick
Purpose
FOP Community member Sanya Khwaja and her daughter Aimy created this hand stick to her daughter be more independent in everyday tasks. Multiple versions were created. Sanya says ” She wants to do her own her work. She feels terrible to ask for any work to others. Her arms are not able to move anything easily for her. My daughter can easily do her own things easily (with the hand stick). In many cases she feel independent to do her own. Which feels me proud.”
The stick can be used without anything attached to the end to move items, turn on and off lights, and lock or unlock doors. Tape or string can be used to attach a brush or comb to complete self care tasks.
How to make
Items Needed: a stick, string or tape
- Find a stick that is the correct length for your personal needs, and smooth out rough edges
- Use tape or string to attach items to the end of the stick
