Oral rinses are not a replacement for daily brushing and flossing. Only brushing and flossing disrupts the biofilm that develops on
the teeth causing plaque. However, mouthwashes may help get into areas missed by brushing. If you choose to use an over-the-
counter mouthwash after brushing, make sure you are using one that is alcohol-free to avoid killing off the healthy bacteria in
your mouth, thus maintaining a more stable balance of your mouth’s microbiome.
