When FOP causes the jaw to fuse, oral rinses may be the only way to reach the tongue and inner surfaces of the teeth. In this
case, it is important to talk with your dentist to determine which mouthwash or oral rinse will be best to use for your specific oral health risks. In many cases, chlorhexidine may be temporarily prescribed to help kill bacteria, reduce inflammation and reverse gingivitis. Chlorhexidine must be used in a specific manner and for a specific duration so it should only be used when prescribed and closely monitored by your dentist.
