Purpose

Foot Controls allow for control of steering and acceleration using foot-operated devices. Foot steering systems provide enhanced independence for individuals who cannot use traditional hand controls, enabling them to drive safely and confidently. They are customizable, with adjustable configurations to accommodate various disabilities and driver preferences. Additionally, these systems reduce physical strain, allowing for more efficient and comfortable vehicle operation

***Everyone with FOP will have different needs when adapting a vehicle to drive. It is important to work with a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist or another professional to determine your specific needs.***

Description

A Foot Steering System is an advanced adaptive driving solution designed for individuals with limited or no upper-body mobility, enabling them to control a vehicle using their feet instead of their hands. These systems provide an alternative way to steer, accelerate, and brake. Foot steering systems replace or supplement traditional hand-operated steering with foot-controlled mechanisms. There are different types of foot steering adaptations, including:

  • Foot-Operated Steering Wheels – A modified steering wheel positioned on the floor, allowing drivers to steer with their feet.
  • Foot-Controlled Joysticks or Pedals – Electronic systems where foot movements control steering, acceleration, and braking, similar to joystick-operated adaptive driving solutions.
  • Custom Foot Plates and Levers – Mechanically linked steering devices that convert foot motions into directional control of the vehicle.

These systems often integrate with power-assisted steering and other adaptive controls to ensure smooth operation with minimal physical effort.
