Adaptive Ski Pants

Purpose

Kathleen, who lives with FOP in Canada, modified a pair of ski pants to keep her legs warm in the winter. She cut them and sewed them like they are sleeves. They slide over her legs while she is in her wheelchair.
She says,” Blankets work, but the wind blows through them and you get cold. With the ski pants, you stay warmer as they go all the way around your legs. I just use a blanket to cover my upper thighs. The ski pants roll up nice and small to carry with you. We did create this on the first try. I used a sleeping bag first, but I started thinking, what about ski pants that are like sleeves? “

How to make

Items Needed: Ski pants, scissors, sewing machine

  • Buy ski pants. You could even look at a second-hand store!
  • Cut the bum part off so you are left with what looks like sleeves
  • Sew the end you cut
