Standard Toilet Riser

Purpose

Toilet risers can help elevate the height of your toilet, making it easier to get on and off. Like bidets, there are several different kinds of toilet risers and which one is best for you will be determined by a variety of factors. Some things to consider:

  • Do I want my toilet riser to be semi-permanent or easily removable?
  • Do I need to use a bidet with my toilet riser?
  • Do I need handles for additional assistance or will handles get in the way?
  • What is the shape of my toilet bowl?

Description

A standard raised toilet seat is a semi-permanent option to raise the height of the toilet. The riser attaches via screws on the back of the toilet seat. Depending on the model, it will go either under your traditional toilet seat or in place of your toilet seat. Most standard raised toilet seats have arms. Higher end models will have arms that are removable or fold up. A standard raised toilet seat is best for individuals who do not need to share a bathroom with someone (or their someone doesn’t mind the extra lift!) and own their home or are able to make semi-permanent adjustments. While it is possible to install both a toilet riser and a toilet mount bidet, it can be very difficult and not all brands work together. If you need a bidet, a hand held bidet is your best option.

Tips

If you are on the shorter side, a raised toilet seat might leave your feet floating in the air. This can be uncomfortable. Consider using an under toilet stool to rest your feet on. These stools are light and should never be used as a step to get onto or off of the toilet as they are prone to flip over.
