Telephone Extender

Purpose

FOP Community Member Laura Rossano created this unique way to answer her work phone independently.

“I wanted to be able to answer my phone independently and not be on speakerphone or wear a headset that I couldn’t get off myself or an earpiece that would be uncomfortable to wear during the entire day. I needed something that was going to be easy for me to use and lightweight. Because I’m a counselor, I cannot take calls on speakerphone due to confidentiality so I needed a way that I could answer the phone without being on speakerphone and I couldn’t wear a headset because I can’t get that on and off myself and I didn’t wanna have to wear an earpiece all day.”

How to make

Items needed: wood, sander or other woodworking tool, heavy duty Velcro

  • Measure length of wood needed and cut to size
  • Sand wood using sander or other woodworking tool to smooth the surface of the wood
  • Using heavy duty velcro, stick one side to the phone handle and one side to the cut wood piece

*Tape can be used to secure the velcro if the “stick” starts to wear off or you need more stability

This tool was created as part of the2025  Ability Toolbox Homemade Tools Contest. More information about the contest can be found on the IFOPA Webpage. The IFOPA would like to thank The Radiant Hope Foundation for their generous financial support of this program.
