Wheel to Walk Foundation
Purpose
The Wheel to Walk Foundation is a compassionate, mission-driven nonprofit ensuring kids with special needs don’t go without critical adaptive tools and therapies—especially when insurance doesn’t help.
Description
The Wheel to Walk Foundation helps children and young adults (20 and under) with disabilities by funding medical and adaptive equipment or therapy services not covered by insurance, including items like adaptive strollers, bath/shower chairs, wheelchairs, gait trainers, lifts, orthotics, speech and physical therapies, and communication devices. To qualify, applicants must reside in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, or California, demonstrate medical need, and show that insurance will not cover the requested equipment or services. Families can submit a request through the foundation’s website, after which the board reviews applications and, if approved, purchases the item directly from suppliers. While the foundation does not cover deductibles, co-pays, iPads, service animals, or home/vehicle modifications, they strive to ensure that no child with special needs goes without life-enhancing tools and support.
